Born and raised in the East of the Netherlands, Bas Hollander moved with his family to Denver, Colorado, after attending university in England. He worked for more than a decade in a corporate career, before deciding to follow his childhood passion to become an artist. He learned to airbrush and spent the first six years of his art career airbrushing anything from leather jackets to guitars, motorcycles, and especially hockey goalie masks. During that time, he also painted many commissioned pet portraits.
Bas then decided to share his passion for art with future generations and became a visual arts teacher. He earned his M.A. in Art Education and now teaches Concurrent Enrollment college-level drawing and painting to high school students in Northeast Denver. This allows the students to earn college credits while in high school.
Currently, most of his art is inspired by memories of his home country, the Netherlands. His preferred media for painting are watercolors and ink, acrylics, and occasionally oils. His drawings are usually done with charcoal or an ink pen.
